This measure aims to help protect vehicles from flooding, especially electric vehicles, which face increased risks if exposed to floodwaters.

Electric vehicles are particularly vulnerable to damage from flooding, as water can cause serious electrical malfunctions, including battery damage and short circuits. In extreme cases, exposure to floodwaters can lead to electrical fires. By providing upper-level parking in City garages, residents can take steps to minimize these risks and safeguard their vehicles ahead of the storm.

“Our goal is to help all residents, especially electric vehicle owners, avoid the dangers associated with flooding,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “Parking in the upper levels of our garages can help reduce the likelihood of water damage, and we encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Parking will be available at the following City garages, with upper-level parking offered on a first-come, first-served basis:

Fort Brooke Garage: 107 N.
